Council on Clinical Practice

Closely aligned with and supportive of the mission of the American College of Cardiology, the Council on Clinical Practices strives to advocate for quality cardiovascular care through education, research, promotion, development and application of standards and guidelines and to influence health care policy.

The Council on Clinical Practices serves as a resource to the divisions and programs of the College, in terms of providing insight, feedback, participants and recommendations for College activities of interest to cardiovascular practices. 

Also charged with developing an overarching strategy for the College's cardiovascular practice initiatives, the Council on Clinical Practice coordinates existing and prospective related activities within the College.

Objectives:

1: To support the science and improve quality of care within cardiovascular practices  
2: To foster awareness, appropriate assessment, and relevant treatment of cardiovascular patients 
3: To strengthen advocacy efforts for the recognition of CV practices and their role in prevention, patient care, and the healthcare system 
4: To enhance opportunities for education, training, career development and leadership in this area  
5: To foster relationships with other organizations with common interests

Scope:

• Represent the interests of the clinical practice and ACC members in developing initiatives and programs
• Serve as a resource to the ACC on matters relating to the business and financial matters facing the clinical practice.   
• Prepare activity reports for the BOT on cardiovascular clinical practice initiatives of the College
• Collaborate with other committees as appropriate on such activities by providing coordination and input on proposals submitted to the BOT.

Structure:

The President of the ACC appoints the Chair, who will be a Fellow of the College and other members of the Council on Clinical Practice in the established processes for committee appointments. There will be six members of the Council, who- following the inaugural appointments - will serve three year terms, with two members rotating off each year replaced by two new appointments.  Members of the Council will be Fellows of the College that represent practitioners from both an academic and a private practice setting.
