Sports and Exercise Cardiology Council & Section

A section for all interested in sports and exercise cardiology, open to all ACC members with an interest in the cardiovascular care of the athlete and exercising individuals of all ages.

Co-Chairs:  Christine E. Lawless, MD, FACC and Richard J. Kovacs, MD, FACC

The Council and Section are dedicated to the cardiovascular care of athletes,
as well as individuals of all ages (pediatric through adult), engaged in exercising.
 

 

 

Mission of the Council

The mission of the Sports and Exercise Cardiology Council, and the corresponding Sports and Exercise Cardiology Section is closely aligned to the American College of Cardiology mission. The Council and Section have these objectives:

1. Articulate the current needs and opportunities for sports and exercise cardiology from an educational, research, development and application of standards and guidelines, and public outreach and health care policy perspective

2. Serve as a conduit for information and action regarding the cardiovascular care of athletes, and support constructive and enhanced interactions with all interested stakeholders

3. Participate in the dialogue regarding public policy, advising on issues specific to the cardiovascular care of athletes and exercising individuals. Promote the availability of AED at athletic events and awareness of the heart during pre-participation examinations

4. Enhance opportunities for multidisciplinary training to improve interpretation cardiac testing in athletes and exercising individuals.
