Benefits of Section Membership
You can be woman in cardiology and have it all – a fulfilling career and personal life. Many women cardiologists, like their male counterparts, balance their career obligations with the needs of family and friends. The secret to success is the same as in many other professional careers; you must put in place a strong support system to help you juggle family demands and a demanding job.
The Women in Cardiology Section of the ACC offers women cardiologists opportunities to strengthen their professional support system and skills through networking events, professional development and mentoring programs. In addition, membership and active involvement in the Section provides a training ground for developing leadership skills and understanding the governance structure and avenues to leadership within the College.
"Sections expand on the professional interests and goals of members," noted Athena Poppas, 2008-2009 Chair of the Women in Cardiology Committee. "The exchange of ideas, skills and experiences can enhance learning opportunities for women members, providing them a stepping stone to activity at ACC's national leadership levels." Dues are $35 per year. No fee for FITs. Join Today!

Section Initiatives
Networking
The Women's Section provides an opportunity to be involved and have interaction with other women in the cardiovascular field. Meetings and receptions are held at least two times per year, at the ACC Annual Scientific Session and the AHA Annual Scientific Session. Are you interested in hosting a local get together? Staff is available to help coordinate. Please contact Kelli Bohannon at kbohanno@acc.org.
Virtual Mentoring Program
| The virtual mentoring program is an online forum with the purpose of promoting the professional growth of women physicians in the field of cardiology. It has been designed to link fellows who are in cardiology training programs and early career cardiologists with established cardiologists who are willing to share their knowledge and experience. The value of this program is in the section members who volunteer their time as mentors and in the benefits young women receive in learning from them. |

Visiting Professor Program
The goal of the program is to encourage women in medical school to enter the field of cardiology. How does it work? Section members volunteer to be guest speakers at Internal Medicine Residency Programs. They will visit schools to speak, to give a lecture at grand rounds or another suitable venue, and attend either a lunch or dinner with interested women.
The value of this program lies in the section members who identify opportunities to engage female internal medicine residents and medical school students. Staff is available to assist in coordinating the visit. To arrange a visiting professor program please download a form here or contact Kelli Bohannon at kbohanno@acc.org.
