Chapters and International Outreach
In 1986, the ACC founded the
Chapter system to further the College's mission by supporting the cardiology community at a local level. Led by Chapter Governors who reside on the ACC national Board of Governors and managed by Chapter Executives, strong ACC Chapters build a strong ACC.
"The Chapter is where leadership in the College starts. The activities in the Chapters around quality, advocacy and education mirror the activities of the national organization. Success in Chapter leadership often translates into success at the national level," said
Richard Kovacs, MD, FACC. As of 2010, all 50 U.S. states and Puerto Rico were represented by ACC Chapters.

Crossing Borders With ACC International
ACC International sets out to enhance cardiovascular health through sustained collaboration and the exchange of knowledge and resources for cardiovascular care worldwide. Over 4,000 international members hailing from over 100 countries practice in a variety of settings and in a range of specialties that span the breadth of cardiovascular care. This diversity allows the ACC to gain a range of perspectives in making decisions for future initiatives and policies. The College supports
ACC International Chapters in close collaboration with national cardiovascular societies. International Chapters help promote the mission of the ACC by providing a venue for members to gain leadership skills, network with colleagues and to meet and discuss issues relevant to the practice of cardiology in their home country. ACC International Chapters have been forming and expanding around the globe as they work with the College to identify opportunities for educational partnerships, registry development, research collaborations and quality initiatives.
