| EHR Incentive Program |
|
The federal government developed the EHR Incentive Program to encourage use of health IT. Under the program, qualified physicians that demonstrate "meaningful use" of EHR technology and performance between 2011 and 2015 can receive bonus payments.

| E-Prescribing |
| The Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act (MIPPA) authorized the E-Prescribing Incentive Program for eligible professionals. Starting in 2012, physicians will be penalized if they do not successfully participate in the e-prescribing program.
