The American College of Cardiology’s 2011 Legislative Conference took place Sept. 11-13 in Washington, D.C. Briefing materials for attendees and highlights from the conference are available here.

With health reform implementation underway, the conference was a unique opportunity to hear first-hand from members of Congress, Capitol Hill staff and other policymakers about key issues ranging from payment reform to new models of care delivery. In addition, attendees had the opportunity to share with congressional leaders ways the cardiovascular community can and is working to transform the new health care system into one that puts patients first and rewards physicians and other care providers for their commitment to quality, cost-effective, evidence-based care.

The conference commenced on Sunday with a reception and dinner hosted by the ACC Political Action Committee (PAC) featuring General Stanley McChrystal. Len Nichols was the keynote speaker at Monday’s lunch, also hosted by the ACCPAC. Monday was filled with educational sessions on topics ranging from health reform implementation and innovative payment models to the impacts of regulatory changes on the practice of cardiology. On Tuesday, conference participants headed to Capitol Hill for pre-arranged meetings with their members of Congress.
