CMS Delays E-Prescribing Deadline to July 2

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) announced today that the Agency has extended the deadline for filing a request for a hardship exemption from the e-prescribing penalty from June 30 to July 2.  The system used to process the requests is currently being updated, which may present some challenges to those attempting to file requests between 8 p.m. on Friday, June 29 and Saturday, June 30 at 11:59 p.m.

In the event that you encounter difficulties filing a request for an exemption to the e-prescribing penalty on the Quality Reporting Communication Support Page, it is critical that you:

  • Document any calls and emails you have with the Communications Support webpage team and retain these for your records.
  • Send an email to the CMS ePrescribing email box to indicate that you were unable to file online, state the reason why, and indicate which hardship you are applying for at eRx_hardship@cms.hhs.gov.

For more information on filing for a hardship, visit the CMS website.

The Quality Support Page User Manual is available to assist individual eligible professionals and CMS-selected group practices in submitting their request for a hardship exemption and can also be accessed from the “Help” icon on the Communication Support Page.

For additional information on the 2013 e-prescribing payment adjustment, including who is subject to the payment adjustment and how to avoid the payment adjustment, visit the eRx Incentive Program website.
