COURSE OVERVIEW/STATEMENT OF NEED

To demonstrate a public commitment to remain highly skilled and knowledgeable throughout their careers, medical professionals must satisfy the evolving requirements for Board Certification and Maintenance of Certification (MOC).

Maximize your time in Chicago with this optional, interactive study session as ABIM-certified physician experts guide you through 50 case-based questions (25 questions per module, two modules) that comprise ABIM’s Cardiovascular Disease Updates 2011 and 2012 medical knowledge modules. This course will weigh evidence on a case-by-case basis as you discuss options with faculty and fellow participants to identify the most appropriate answers to ABIM  questions.

Monitor your progress by comparing answers anonymously to the experts and your peers through the course’s audience response system. After the course, submit your answers directly to the ABIM and earn 20 MOC credits.

Learner Objectives
The overall goal of this course is to enhance knowledge and increase competency in the treatment of cardiovascular disease.

Upon completion of this course, attendees should be able to –

  • Satisfy ABIM’s Self-evaluation of Medical Knowledge requirement for Maintenance of Certification by earning a total of 20 MOC points
  • Identify new diagnostic testing options
  • Describe new therapeutic options
  • Discuss new clinical decisions regarding diagnosis and treatment of patient problems
  • Compare and contrast differences in diagnostic and treatment options for common and unusual problems

ABIM INFORMATION
The ACCF Study Session for Maintenance of Certification for Cardiovascular Disease Updates 2011 and 2012 will facilitate completion of a medical knowledge module by ABIM-certified physicians for Maintenance of Certification credit in an interactive group setting with educational support.

  1. ACCF will provide you with a “Learner’s Copy” of the ABIM Module Cardiovascular Updates 2011 and 2012 at the session on September 8, 2012.
  2. In addition to the learner’s copy you will receive at the session, you must order an “Official” copy of the knowledge module(s) directly from ABIM. Modules can be ordered by physicians enrolled in MOC at no additional charge via your password-protected “Home Page” in the “Physician Login” of www.abim.org.
  3. Modules are ordered online and will be available to you immediately on your home page.
  4. Participants who are enrolled in ABIM’s Maintenance of Certification Program can order a copy of the knowledge modules in Cardiovascular Disease from ABIM’s website, www.abim.org, and transfer and submit the answers discussed during the Learning Session to ABIM for scoring. ABIM will send participants a score report that confirms whether or not each module was completed successfully. Those who complete the modules successfully will receive 10 points per module toward ABIM’s Self-evaluation of Medical Knowledge requirement for Maintenance of Certification. In addition, successful completion of any ABIM medical knowledge module qualifies for up to 18 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. You must be enrolled in ABIM’s Maintenance of Certification Program to submit completed medical knowledge modules for scoring, feedback reports and eligibility to receive Maintenance of Certification and CME credit.

NOTE:
If you are already enrolled in the ABIM Maintenance of Certification Program, there is no additional fee for ordering this version of the “Official” module. If you order before coming to the session on September 8, you may bring your module and laptop with you.

If you are not enrolled in the ABIM Maintenance of Certification Program, you may attend the learning session; however you must enroll in the Maintenance of Certification Program to order your module from ABIM and to be eligible to receive Maintenance of Certification credit for completing the module.

For additional information about the ABIM Maintenance of Certification Program requirements, visit ABIM’s website, www.abim.org  or call the ABIM Contact Center, 800-441-ABIM. To enroll in Maintenance of Certification, go to your password-protected “Home Page” in the Physician Login section of www.abim.org. Once enrolled, you will be able to order an ABIM medical knowledge module at your “Home Page.”

All questions regarding recertification eligibility should be referred to the ABIM. Before registering for this ACCF Study Session, please check your ABIM profile in the “Physician Login” at www.abim.org/online to confirm that Cardiovascular Disease Updates 2011 and 2012 are not modules that you have previously completed. Please refer to the Cancellations Section for additional information.

After the learning session on September 8, 2012, please submit your answers to ABIM as soon as possible for Maintenance of Certification credit.
