Electronic Health Record (EHR) Toolkit
-
Give the many benefits of health IT, the ACC highly encourages its members to adopt an electronic health record (EHR) in their practice. To make the transition as smooth as possible, the ACC has assembled the following toolkit to assist you in beginning the process of choosing and implementing an EHR.
Federal Incentive Programs
-
The federal government has developed an EHR incentive program to encourage use of health information technology. Under the program, qualified physicians that demonstrate "meaningful use" of electronic health record (EHR) technology and performance between 2011 and 2015 can receive bonus payments. The link below provides detailed information on the program, including a high-level overview, FAQs, registration information and key ACC efforts to date.
Electronic Prescribing
-
The Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act (MIPPA) authorized an e-prescribing incentive program for eligible professionals. Practitioners who participated in 2009 and 2010 received bonus payments of 2 percent, while 2011 participants received a 1 percent bonus. Starting in 2012, physicians will be penalized if they do not successfully participate in the e-prescribing program. The ACC has prepared the following resources to help cardiovascular professionals successfully participate in the program and avoid future penalties.
